Tank looks great no issues or concerns at this time.
Last ALK test on 7/9 was 7.3dkh. Todays test was 9.3dkh. So need to make an adjustment on the Kalkwasser Dosing pump which is a Spectrapure pump controlled by Apex. Setting was 5 seconds on 2.5 minutes off during lights off ( 6pm - 8am ). Changed to 5 seconds on 3 minutes off during lights off ( 6pm - 8am ).

Here is a quick pick of the 29g Soft tank. Tank has been running about 18months. It shares the same sump as the 180g so not much to it other than lighting and powerheads. It's not perfect, several aptasia that need to be zapped. The gorgonian collects algae float by. Also still working on the blue clove polyps, still some patches here and there. I really like the blue clove but it spawns and show up all over the tank and once it gets imbedded into zoanthid colonies it is hard to get rid of without taking your zoathid polyps with it. Lighting: is DIY Led fixture 7X6.5K whites, 7 X blues, 7 X UV purple. Circulation: Approx 200gph flow Tee off the main return pump. It uses 2 Aqueon AT40 Internal Filters on opposing sides for flow. I chose these because they are flat low profile stay mostly hidden by the trim and most importantly are more anemone friendly since there is some filter floss so impossible to get tangled in the impeller. It does add some mechanical filtration as well and has helped with the crud that does settle in this tank. AT40 has worked out well and perfect fit for this tank. Went on vacation. We had a house sitter that is not an experienced Hobbiest. Everything went fine. No casualties and algae issues.
There was a big storm on July 6. Power went out a couple of times but nothing more than a minute. I was lucky some local hobbiest had power out for up to 14hours. I had been meaning to get my UPS battery replaced. This is a eye opener so getting that taken care of ASAP. This week tank maintenance: Siphoned the sandbed into disposable filter sock. Cleaned all sides of the glass. Test readings: Phosphate: .018ppm Alk: 7.3 dkh Calcium: Not tested. Magnesium: 1380ppm New Full Tank shot was added to the Introduction page gallery.
Tank is now 53 months since going Algae Turf Scrubber as the main filtration. Also is now 15 months since going to the Near Zero Water Change philosophy. I added my monthly dosings today: 50ml Triton Strontium 1/3 Cup Potassium Cloride .25 mil of Triton Vanadium 1 Capsule of Molybdenum .5mil of Triton Zinc .5mil of Triton Nickel 5mil of Sodium Silicate ( AKA Liguid Glass ) Other Maintenance, I did a long overdue siphon the sandbed into a filter sock. Cleaned the front and back glass. Extremely Pleased with the Latest Triton Results. Images from tests are below.
Elements that came back in the Red:
Making 1 time adjustments based on Triton recommendations: Triton Vanadium: 1 mil DIY Recipe Pottasium: 1 cup Triton Strontium: 180mil .5 Teaspoon Borax in heated RO/DI: Should raise approx .5ppm in 200g Mn 4 drops Triton NI: 30Mil Triton Zinc: 2mil Adjustments to my Daily/Weekly/Montly dosing: No changes to my daily and weekly dosages, only need to tweak my monthly ones:
Purchased new Salifert test kits for Caclium and Magnesium from Bulkreefsupply.
I wanted to get new ones and test just prior to sending off another Triton Test. Results: 1.025 sg = Salinity ( Milwaukee Digital Refractometer ) 400ppm = Calcium ( using Salifert ) - added 100ml of BRS Caclium Chloride solution 8.5dkh = Alkalinity ( using Salifert ) 1350ppm = Magnesium ( using Salifert ). Will be sending off a Triton Test on Monday usually takes 10-14days to get the results. Will use the test result to tweak my daily/monthly/weekly element dosages. Monthly Dosings for End of May:
30ml of Triton Strontium 2 eye drops of Triton Vanadium 1 capsule of molybdenum ( From Iherb ) I skipped the 1/4 cup of Potassium ( I mis dosed 4 cups instead of 1 cup a while back, will not add any until next Triton Test results ) 2 eye drops of Triton Zinc 2ml of Triton Nickel 5ml of Sodium Silicate ( AKA Liquid Glass ). I'm due for another Triton test to see where I'm at. Will get that in the mail end of the week. Todays Test readings: .0398ppm Phosphate reading 9.3dkh Alkalinity. Adjusted the doser timings becuase alk is slowly rising. Changed from 5sec On / 2:30 off to 5Sec on / 3:00off during 6pm - 8am nightly cycle. I don't own a nitrate test kit, I tested for more than a year and never saw it read anything but non-detectable on Salifert so I never bothered to order another one.
Tank Tests today include:
Salinity 1.026, Alkalinity 8dkh Two orders arrived today: 1. BulkReefSupply. I use BRS, they are local to me and have developed a good relationship with the owners and staff:
